The Harvard International Relations Council

"To promote, improve, and develop the education of all individuals"

The Harvard International Relations Council is one of the oldest and largest student-run organizations at Harvard College. Our mission is simple: to promote, improve, and develop the education of all individuals. The IRC inspires global leadership and presses for real world impact. Serving more than 700 members, the IRC forms an integral part of its members’ college experience, with an extensive network of alumni around the world. We are a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and an accredited NGO with the United Nations Department of Global Communications, and we were first incorporated in Massachusetts in 1974.

The IRC has six constituent programs, each focusing on a different aspect of our overall mission:

  • Harvard Model United Nations (HMUN): The world's largest high school MUN conference, convening in Boston in January. HMUN also hosts conferences in China in March, Dubai in June, and India in August.

  • Harvard National Model United Nations (HNMUN): The world's most prestigious university level MUN conference, convening in Boston in February. HNMUN also hold a conference in Latin America in January.

  • Harvard International Review (HIR): A quarterly magazine offering insight on international affairs from the perspectives of scholars, leaders, and policymakers. It has had featured commentary by 43 Presidents and Prime Ministers, 4 Secretaries-General, 4 Nobel Economics Prize laureates, and 7 Nobel Peace Prize laureates.

  • Harvard Program for International Education (HPIE): A public service program run and staffed by Harvard undergraduates passionate about international relations. HPIE seeks to promote international awareness and education in today’s youth.

  • Harvard Intercollegiate Model United Nations (ICMUN): Harvard's competitive MUN traveling team, which participates in conferences organized by other universities and is consistently ranked amongst the highest in the country.

  • International Relations on Campus (IRoC): IRoC's main purpose is to promote on-campus discussion and awareness of international affairs. It collaborates with Harvard's Weatherhead Center to plan several events.
